when listening very closely, singling out bob's guitar within my ears, i oftentimes find him the most fascinating musician in the whole group - certainly not saying he is the best, but very very fascinating. like spiral commented - quite a unique rhythm accompaniment in many tunes and jams

I was just listening to Bobby's guitar playing from 9-28-72. Check out He's Gone for a great example of what Bobby could do. He really had his own unique style which I'll take over the many copy cat guitarists out there. As far as Keith is concerned, I'm not so sure his decline was due to Bobby as opposed to his increased drug use at the time. But I really prefer Bobby's playing from 71-74 over the 80's where Brent was much more featured in the mix, however he was probably a better singer with more songs which helped pick up for Jerry whose voice was often shot after 82.

you certainly have a point about Brent "competing" in the mix (though I certainly love Brent's contributions to the sound). but yeah, Bobby is easier to seperate pre-Brent - been listening to some '76 the last few days where, i am sure due to the "sound" they were aiming at, bobby was quite easy to focus upon almost to the exclusion of everything else (which unfortunately almost made me sideswipe a tollbooth since i got a bit "lost in the mix", so to say)

On thread, Bobby is a very unique rhythm player.

Dammit man, Is nothing sacred? Though I do recall seeing a glimpse of our "Dear Old Wolfie" when I had a moment to lurk the other day. Hope all is well...
